Tofino Time

This was my weekend off in Tofino. Notice the large goofy smile at the end? That's because my sol is happy when I'm surfing and breathing fresh salty air. I love my wild west coast friends who live there and I'm exited for my next visit!

Waste my Life

Inspired by Des Larson' s song "Waste my Life", I feel inspired to write this blog. It's a strange time to be human, everything seems so uncertain. We are waking up to the impact we've had on the planet and realizing we cannot continue on the same path of consumerism if we want anything to be left for future generations. We have only to look at the popular teen trilogy "Hunger Games" as a sign of our collective head space. Popular culture has always been a sign of the time. So, if we are in fact headed for some serious change does that mean we should be conservative in our life choices? I think not!

Carpe diem, make the most of the present moment! The way I see it, we have two choices. Sit on the couch with a bag of Dorritos
and think we coulda, woulda, shoulda... Or we take this opportune moment to push ourselves to achieve some of the things on our bucket list. Remember all that cheesy stuff from your high school yearbook? Maybe we should have a little revisit to that time when all seemed possible and we where inspired to get going on it. So get out there! Start small and work your way to fantastic. Pretend your into astrology and this is your horoscope.

The position of the moon and stars indicate that you should wake the fuck up. Ha, ha, ha...

Seriously, I know there something or someone you've always wanted to do, do it. You can blame my stupid blog later:)

Maui Madness

I was recently fortunate enough to get an assignment on Maui. Hawaii is all time. Best surfing, fresh seafood, good coffee, basically paradise. But to be working there is game changing. Could this be a regular gig or have I lucked upon a dream assignment. Maybe a little of both.

It's pretty easy to make video and photos of tropical paradise look good, especially if you add the ocean into the mix. I was covering the sport of outrigger canoeing. Hawaii have been paddling outrigger canoes for centuries but it's a relatively fringe sport in North America. In Hawaii they often paddle the outrigger canoes between islands. By using the trade winds and the swell to there advantage they can surf the canoes across the large channels faster than human power alone.

It's easy to see the strong connection Hawaiians have to the ocean. Locals will often spend hours watching whales, surfing waves or just fishing at the beach. I believe that in order to find the spirit of Aloha you must go into the Ocean at least once a day:)

It seems obvious that I chose these kicks for there fast color. But, beyond that Montrail are a great trail shoe for those of us who need a little extra traction on wet, slippery, rooted, west coast trails. The "Bajada" is also super light weight with a comfy stretchy mesh construction. These runners may not make me run my next 10 k in under 45min. but I will look good doing it. Now, I just have to find a matching running outfit. Ha ha!

This was my father, Jim Boulding, favorite quote. He was a character and burned very bright but died quite young of cancer. I was 12 when he passed and he left me with a good foundation for life but also a small hole in my heart. I will always remember him telling me we had two choices in life. You could be a winer and a bitcher or a happy warrior.

Recently I have discovered that as I grow older my connection with him becomes stronger.
Maybe because the past becomes more relevant when we're searching for answers. I'm happy to say I've enjoyed all of the excitement, frustration, hard ache, jet lag, adrenaline and understanding that Restless Josie has gifted to me.

It feels like I'm on the edge of a large precipice and waiting for someone to ask me to jump... Maybe I should just let go of the outcome and trust in my own instincts.
